When does Delaware ULR recruit?
We recruit new Staff Writers, Staff Editors, and General Members at the beginning of the fall semester. Given that we are a yearly publication, there is no spring recruitment.
Applications for the Delaware Undergraduate Law Review will open on August 24, 2026, and close on September 7, 2026.

Who does Delaware ULR recruit?
We look for talented writers and editors of any major as well as undergraduate year at the University of Delaware. We do not require previous experience with long-form legal writing to join, and you do not need to be pre-law.
Why should I join?
Undergraduate publication opportunities are rare. Delaware ULR allows students to publish original legal scholarship while gaining valuable research, writing, and editing experience that can greatly strengthen resumes and law school or other graduate school applications.
What can I write about?
Staff writers are allowed to write about any topic they choose, as long as three conditions are met: 1) The topic is based in law 2) The topic presents a legal argument 3) The topic is approved by the Executive and Editorial Board. Examples include: Should TikTok be banned in the United States? Was Roe v. Wade correctly decided? Is the death penalty constitutional? Should political gerrymandering be unconstitutional? Should artists be allowed to copyright songs created with AI assistance? Should the government regulate high-frequency trading on the stock market?
What is the time commitment?
All members are required to go to weekly one-hour meetings for training, professional development, and other club events. Additionally, Staff Editors and Staff Writers are expected to work for at least one hour per week outside of the weekly one-hour meetings.
What do Staff Writers do?
Staff Writers pitch topics of their choice, and the Executive and Editorial Board determine which topics are approved for research and publication. After approval, Staff Writers develop outlines and article drafts while working closely with a Staff Editor throughout the editing and revision process. Finalized articles are then selected for inclusion in the organization's annual spring publication.
What do Staff Editors do?
Staff Editors are responsible for reviewing and editing articles written by Staff Writers throughout the publication process. They are expected to assist with legal research, source verification, Bluebook citation, argument development, and overall writing quality to ensure that each article meets the standards of the Delaware Undergraduate Law Review.
What do General Members do?
General Members are responsible for attending Delaware ULR meetings and supporting the publication process by working directly under a Staff Writer or Staff Editor. Their responsibilities may include but are not limited to assisting with legal research, proofreading, article formatting, and source collection. General Members are expected to learn the publication and editorial process through active participation and mentorship from the Writing Staff. In the event that a Staff Writer or Staff Editor leaves the organization due to time commitments, personal reasons, or other circumstances, a General Member will be the first selected by the Executive Board and Editorial Board to fill the vacant role.
